Fitness Friday

Fitness Friday was started last week by Amy over at Muddy Boots. I see she hasn’t done a FF post yet today so it may not be an ongoing thing. However, I’ve been working my butt off and I’m ready to talk about it!!

I haven’t mentioned this sooner because I know how I am. I get all fired up about things and forget them the next week. I didn’t want to talk about working out if I was going to quit. Well, not this time!! I started Jillian Micheal’s 30 Day Shred Workout on Monday, June 15th. I’ve worked out Monday – Friday for two weeks now.

I heard about the shred from several different places right in a row, even from one of my new favorite blogs Cents to Get Debt Free.

For those not familiar with the workout it goes like this:
There are 3 levels, progressively harder.
Each level is a short warm-up, 18 minutes of hard work, and a short cool down totaling around 22 minutes.
You do 3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio, 1 minute of abs and repeat 3 times.
Each 6 minute circuit features different exercises so it is NOT BORING, which I like.

I stuck to level 1 for the first 6 days. Tuesday I moved to level 2. I confess that I didn’t work very hard Tuesday morning because I was confused and slow to grasp the new moves. This could have been avoided by watching the segment first but I thought it might scare me off. Instead I watched it on fast forward afterward, pausing for the moves that stumped me. Wednesday, despite getting up @ 5 AM in hopes of working out, I was only able to squeeze in about 10 minutes total. I worked extra hard for that 10 minutes to compensate! 😉 Today was the first time I really got in to level 2 from start to finish. It was challenging and I was fighting hard at the end just to finish.

I can honestly say I have never physically worked this hard before, at least not consistently. It is addicting. I can’t wait to get up and get started. I feel so good afterward and think this is a big part of why I’ve been in a really good mood lately.

As for physical results, I am already seeing them. Day 2 I weighed 134.8#. After one week I weighed 132.4#. I won’t be surprised if I gain or level off as I build muscle but I’d like to be around 120-125 like I always was until the last couple years. My clothes fit a little better already.

I haven’t changed much about the way I eat although I am watching my portion sizes and avoiding mindless eating and stress eating. I’m trying to add in more fruits and veggies and have realized that I eat A LOT of bread.

What do you do to stay in shape? Have you ever taken on a regular workout? Were you happy with the results?

I worked out a lot in the time leading up to my wedding. I've always naturally been a little bit heavier than most people, but strong from the work I do. I lost weight for the wedding and then gained back to where I always was. I like to call it "voluptuous." 🙂

I've decided to just be comfortable with my body the way it is and I've told everyone I'm done with dieting until after I'm through having children, which could be quite a while! I'm just focused on getting daily activity and making healthy food choices.

I give you credit for sticking to the routine of working out! I know that's often the hardest part.

I feel the same as you, I'm very comfortable with my body. No complex here. I've just decided that buying new clothes is not very frugal and since none of my shorts fit me…well I just don't want to start down a bad path. I've always been able to eat whatever I please and since I expect that to change when I'm older or have children I'd like to be prepared.

I thought being engaged would be very motivating but it wasn't for me. My cousin has a friend that actually gained a little weight for the wedding. She said she didn't want to look back at the pictures and think she'd never look that good again.

How tall are you? The 130's are very foreign to me! I'm 5'7", and even at my skinniest (which wasn't that skinny) I was in the 150's.

FD – I'm around 5'3" or 5'4". I don't think I've ever stood out as being too skinny but have always been naturally slender. I'm hoping to hold on to my figure with a little determination.

I think it is very interesting how people gain and lose weight depending on their love life. My best friend Stephanie and I have seen that. We were the exact same size when we met (through Brian) and could even swap clothes. Eventually she broke up with her fiance and took on a totally different lifestyle as a single girl. She works out and doesn't eat regularly. I'd guess she's maybe a 1 or 3 jean size now. In the meantime I got married and settled in to that role…so I've gone up a few sizes instead of down!!

Have you seen any changes like that since getting married?

I try to run, do real pushups and some free weights. I've been doing that 4-5 days a week and I'm firming up. I haven't lost a single pound, though!!! I know I shouldn't care what the scale said, because I look a whole lot better and I'm smaller, but I was sorta hoping to lose some! (5'5" 150 size 6-8) Why did I just disclose that?? =) Great job!

Sorry I didn't get my Friday Fitness post up last week! We switched internet providers and it DID NOT go smoothly. We were without internet for three days. I was shaky from the withdrawal for the first two days, but was better by the third. Thankfully, we're back in business and I'll post another Linky this Friday. I think I'll do my measurements again to see if there's been any change. There'd better be! I can't sweat that much for nuthin'!

I was so lazy this week and ended up only doing 1 1/2 workouts 😦 it is inspiring to see that you do them everyday and that it gets addicting. I've heard from a few of my friends that work out on a regular basis that it gets to be compulsive and even on vacation they want to find a gym and work out! I'm definitely going to step it up this week. Thanks for the update!
